There will also be an early departure option of 6am for those needing to get done early, or to log many extra miles. The plan is to get about 1h45m in prior to the main group run.

Chilly Chili 5K in Cazenovia, NY on Sunday 1/29/12 @ 1pm

This will be the 7th annual Chilly Chili run to benefit the Cazenovia Children’s House. The race starts and finishes in front of Cazenovia Middle School. Post race is at Cazenovia College Lower Gym Athletic Center featuring the famous chili cook off from local restaurants. There will also be beverages (icluding beer),a band, and prizes (I hear you can win a hat for having a hamster so buy your hamster now). Early Packet pick up is on Saturday at Fleet Feet from 10am-4pm. Looking forward to see what the weather will be like for this years race.

DeRuyter-White Out 5K walk/run  in DeRuyter, NY on Saturday 1/14/2012 @ 10a.m.

Tioughnioga Winter Carnival will host the second annual DeRuyter White-Out  Certified 5k Walk/Run. The race is part of an annual 4 day event Winter carnival. This race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.  The course begins at the DeRuyter Central School and then loops throughout their quaint rural village.  The first 50 registrants will receive a collector’s t-shirt.

Run thru Wegmans Lights on the Lake in Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool, NY on Saturday 1/7/12 from 11p.m.-midnight

This 4 mile (approx.) run begins promptly at 11pm at the Griffin Visitor Center. Runners go to Willow Bay and back. No walkers please, lights will be turned off at midnight. This is a great way to see all of the lights for the very last time before they are shut off for the season. In past years there have been post run cookies and hot chocolate. They also do raffle prizes for little treats.

This weekend, our group run will again be in Liverpool. The meeting spot will be outside of Cafe @ 407 located on Tulip St (near Liverpool Library). This will be our winter location until mid-February. As usual, the main group will depart Saturday at 8am, please show up a little early to say hello and to not miss the pre-run announcements.

Resolution Run between a 5K and a 10K @ Spaghetti Warehouse in Syracuse on Sunday 1/1/12 @10:07 am

The Syracuse Track Club holds this run (not a race) every year to jump start the run year. The course changes every year, and the actual length is somewhat of a mystery but is somewhere between a 5K and a 10K. It begins and ends at the Spaghetti Warehouse, 689 NorthClinton Street. The course winds through the scenic and historical neighborhoods of Syracuse’s Northside, with a champagne stop somewhere in the middle. There’s only one hill, but it’s a doozy! There is no pre-race registration applications will be accepted on site. Race is free for STC members and $10 for non members. Run followed by chili, ziti ,bread and beverages, and the greatest awards in road racing. There’s also a 50-50 raffle to benefit a scholarship fund. So come out and RESOLVE to eat more pasta and drink some beer. Who says carbs are bad for you?! (Please run responsibly).

6 tips for turning Resolutions into Reality

For those of  you who are CRAZY enough John and Brandi are doing the Polar Bear plunge in Cayuga Lake on Sunday January 1, 2012. It takes place behind St. Patricks  Church in Aurora, NY @ 11 a.m. We have done this for several years in a row and it is quite a thrill! We already have a few joiners and the more the merrier. Afterwards we hit up Magees Diner for a nice hot meal

It’s a Wonderful Run 5K in Seneca Falls, NY on Saturday 12/10/11 @ 4:30pm

This has gotta be the coolest race ever! Who doesn’t love this movie! A unique start to this USATF Certified 5K Course places the field atop the famous Bridge Street Bridge which many believe was the inspiration for the bridge scenes in the holiday movie classic ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’. After you strap your bells on(remember “every time a bell rings an Angel gets its wings”) the run/walk will take you past the decorated Christmas Tree display, the lighted storefronts and shops of downtown Seneca Falls, and past historic village homes decked out and lit-up for the holiday season. The course concludes in the shadow of the Bridge Street Bridge in People’s Park along the Seneca Falls Canal Harbor.  Proceeds go to the Seneca County House of Concern. Make a weekend of it…..The IAWL 5K Run/Walk is held in conjunction with the “It’s A Wonderful Life” Festival held every year in Seneca Falls, NY about 45 minutes from Syracuse. Old Tyme Christmas 5K Run/Walk in Weedsport N.Y. on Saturday 12/10/11 @ 10am

This is an 11th annual for this race.The race is part of the Olde Tyme Christmas Holiday Festival from 10a.m. to 3p.m. including antique dealers, crafters, plenty of entertainment, games, and family fun. Long sleeve t-shirts and mugs to the first 100 entrants with awards, door prizes, and refreshments post race. Procedes from this race go to the food pantry and a local high school scholarship. This sounds like it would be a great day to spend with the family after getting in a good 5K to start the day.

Reindeer 5K/10K Run at the Oswego YMCA on Saturday 12/3/11 both @ 9:30am

Everyone is encouraged to dress up in their holiday garb. Santa starts it off with a “Ho Ho Ho Go!” Course goes through downtown. The Streets will not be closed. Bring a toy to be donated to needy children for Christmas. In 2008 they were able to give a Christmas to 60 families at one of the Elementary Schools. 2010 will be the 21st running! First 150 registered will get a long sleeve t-shirt. You may register as 5 person teams too as that is a seperate prize category. There’s no same day race registration(this is the typical “shoot yourself in the foot when you’re trying to raise money” policy of YMCA races). This is an untimed race but there’s a race clock at the end. You may also walk the 5K course. Refreshments will be served in the Armory after.
