The Syracuse City Department of Parks has created a running challenge through the parks and neighborhoods of Syracuse involving specific races that are already found on our race calendar.

 Now with 8 total races, to become a “Syrathoner” you must complete at least 26.2 miles. This can be achieved by completing any combination of races to reach the total of 26.2 miles. Or earn the title of “Ulta-Syrathoner.” To become an “Ultra-Syrathoner” one must complete not only all eight races, but also complete the longer distances of both the Mountain Goat Run (10-miles)and A Run for THEIR Life (15k). Completing this challenge will result in running 42.5 miles.

We will also require that you register for the Syrathon race series. You will need to fill out a one-time registration form which will be available online at the Syrathon website and beginning at the Tipp Hill race.

As always, reaching the title of “Syrathoner” and completing at least 26.2 miles will make you eligible to receive a Saucony tech-shirt at the end of the race series. If you complete all eight races (regardless of distance) you will receive a commemorative finisher’s medal. And if you complete the “Ultra-Syrathon” challenge, you will also be entered to win a prize pack courtesy of Fleet Feet Sports, The New Times and the Syracuse Parks & Recreation.

  1. Thanks, again, to the Lake Effect Runners that visited the Strathmore neighborhood for some of your summer group runs. We really enjoyed hosting you and it was nice to see several neighbors join in on the runs.

    This Sunday at 2pm is The Parks Run and the opportunity to test yourself against others and the clock, while having a lot of fun. In addition to the race’s Syrathon connection and its benefits, there will also be free Gannon’s ice cream for all participants after the race. A just reward for conquering the watertower hill.
